Spratt, Gwendolyn

I Can... I Do... I Will... EXCEL!!!

Hello, I'm Gwendolyn Spratt. I am a kindergarten teacher here at Cockrell Hill Elementary. I have 17 years experience in teaching and molding young minds. I hold an Associate's Degree from Minnesota Metropolitan State College and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Minnesota. Go Gophers!

My career began in Minnesota in Early Education where I taught 4 year olds. After 3 years in this position, I moved back to Texas to pursue new opportunities, which brought me to becoming a K-3 Facilitator in the Dallas ISD. I oversaw 8 elementary schools assisting with lesson plans, teaching strategies, and behavior management. When this program was phased out, I went back teaching 3rd grade at Umphrey Lee Elementary. In 1993, After getting the calling from God, I left teaching to become a full time minister. Being a minister gave me more of a desire to be a teacher, so in 2007 I returned to molding young minds and went back to teaching. I subbed for 10 years before becoming a full time kindergarten teacher in 2017.

I have been married 38 wonderful years to my husband, whom is a retired physician. We have one son, Dalen. Dalen is an alumni of our own DeSoto High School. After graduating, he went on to get a MBA in Business and Marketing from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA.

When my education to become an early educator began, I did so to pay it forward and honor to all of the elementary teachers that made a lasting impression on me. I want to instill in every child that they CAN learn and be what they want to be, given the opportunity. Someone may say you can't achieve your dreams but only YOU can say that you can or can't!
